Controling Weeds

Controling Weeds

We are a Covenants neighborhood and therefore we have the responsibility to rid our yard of weeds.  There is also a city ordinance regarding weed control.  You may do it yourself or hire one of the many local companies that provide this service.

The reason for this is to keep our neighborhood looking nice and maintain our property values.  When someone doesn’t pull or spray the weeds in their yard,  it starts effecting the surrounding neighbors’ yards.  Not a good thing and it’s not being a good neighbor to others.

If you can’t afford to pay someone else for weed control, then do it yourself.  Weeds are much easier to pull up after it rains.

If you neglect weed control and lawn care,  someone may call the City of Moore and they will mow them down and send you a bill.

Early March is the time to apply a pre-emergent weed control.  It will help control bluegrass, crabgrass, dandelions, henbit, chickweed and clover.  This is just the first step in weed control.

The next step involves applying a fertilizer (late spring) to promote a healthy growth of grass.  Healthy Bermuda grass also helps to choke out weeds.  Healthy grass needs to be watered regularly.

In the photo above,  some companies apply a dye to the pre-emergent.  The chemicals often come that way and the lawn service company may  not have a choice.  The dye doesn’t help with weed control, it simply shows what has been sprayed and what hasn’t.

Good luck with controlling your weeds, your neighborhood will appreciate your efforts!
